Obituary and funeral services: Loretta McCoy Owens, of Social Circle

Loretta McCoy Owens, of Social Circle, GA passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro, NC. She fought a long hard battle with ovarian cancer.
Loretta was born in Pike County Kentucky to Arnold and Gaithel McCoy. As a girl she helped in the family garden, picked seasonal produce in Michigan, and cleaned and cooked for the local jailer. Determined to finish her education, Loretta saved enough money for a train ticket to Florida when she was 18 years old. There she lived with her sister, Doris and brother-in-law, Earl Ward. Loretta graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1966.
While working at Touchtons Pharmacy, Loretta met her future husband Stanley Leo Owens. After a short courtship the two were married in Florida in 1968. After living in Florida for a couple of years, the couple settled into Social Circle, GA. On March 4, 1976 they birthed their son, Hardy Gordon Owens into the family. Hardy was welcomed by his half brothers, Leo Owens, Steve Owens, and sister, Cindy Owens.
Loretta was known in Social Circle as the Avon and Insurance Lady. She drove many miles in her white station wagon with son, Hardy in tow. Upon the death of her husband, Stanley, in 1988, Lorett and Hardy moved to Covington, GA. There she began waiting tables. She worked at Po Folks, Blue Willow, and Cracker Barrel. Opportunity called and she took a job a C & D Technology. After 10 years of faithful service, she started working with her daughter in law, Jenee’ Owens cleaning houses. She kept families homes beautiful for the past 20 years.
Loretta was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Monroe, GA. There she enjoyed her Ladies of Faith Sunday School Class, her church family, and her beloved Pastor, Tommy and Diane Fountain.
Loretta is survived by her son, Hardy G. Owens (Jenne), grandchildren: Joy, Savannah, Mary Faith, and John David, Step sons: Leo Owens, and Steve Owens (Kim); siblings: Kathleen Simpkins, Doris Ward, Ransom Kenneth McCoy, and Tammy Hammond.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Gaithel McCoy, Brother, Arnold B. McCoy, and Sisters, Evelyn Thompson, Virginia Franco, and Ann Maynard.
Services will be held at Grace Baptist Church, Thursday, August 24, 2017. Visitation at 1:00 pm, and a celebration of life at 2:00 pm. Pastor Tommy Fountain will be in charge of services. Interment at Social Circle City Cemetery.
