Richard R. Grooms, Jr., age 79, of Loganville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026 with his family by his side. Born September 22, 1946, in Gulfport, Mississippi, Richard lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, and service to others.
Richard served his country for a short period in the United States Army earning the distinction of Army Ranger, after which, Richard served in Vietnam. He found great joy in the simple blessings of life—deer hunting, fishing, working with wood, cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs, and most of all, spending time with his beloved family. He retired from DeKalb County Fire Department after 23 ½ years of service and then started building houses.
Richard was a man everyone wanted as a friend.
Richard has been a member of First Baptist Church Loganville for forty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Grooms and Inez Grooms; two brothers, Walter Grooms and Gary Grooms.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Becky Grooms; his loving children, Ray Grooms (Heather), Heather Lawson (Wayne), Courtney Jordan (Greg); grandchildren, Philip Corbett, Elizabeth Corbett, Victoria Grooms, Bradley Lawson, Carter Lawson, Richard Grooms, IV, and Savannah Lawson; one great granddaughter, Carolyn Corbett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael (Pam) Grooms and Russell (Jenny) Grooms; several cherished nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at First Baptist Church Loganville, 680 Tom Brewer Road. The family receive dvisitors at the church beginning at 1:00 PM and the service began at 2:00 PM, led by Pastor Jimmy Wilson, Pastor Rick Bene, and Pastor Ronnie Kendall.
