Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking to refine your technique, the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts is offering a five-session oil painting course designed for artists of all skill levels.
Instructor Linda Luzum will lead the “Oil Painting with Linda” class from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on five consecutive Thursdays beginning Aug. 6. The course costs $175 for all five sessions.
Participants will learn a simple, step-by-step approach to oil painting, including how to prepare a canvas, draw and seal an image, mix colors using a limited five-color palette, and build rich layers of paint to create realistic works of art. Beginners will be provided with a reference photo to help them get started.
Oil paint’s slow-drying nature makes it an ideal medium for learning, allowing artists to blend colors easily, work in layers, and make corrections as they paint.
The class is open to adults 21 and older, with enrollment limited to 12 participants. A supply list is available through the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts, and last-minute registrations will be accepted if space remains.
