Potential for severe weather this week begins Sunday

Spring is here and with it comes the continued potential for severe weather. This week begins today with a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service that predicts the potential for storms for most of the week, some could be severe. This hazardous weather outlook is for north and central Georgia and includes Walton, Gwinnett and the surrounding counties.

Today and Tonight The NWS predicts the potential for widespread showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms across north and central Georgia beginning Sunday morning through the afternoon. A few storms could become strong to severe this afternoon and evening, particularly in northwest Georgia.

A chance of showers before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2pm and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 76. South wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 61. Southeast wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Monday
A more organized severe weather threat is expected early Monday through the evening. A line of storms moving across the forecast area will be capable of damaging wind gusts, hail, and tornadoes. Thunderstorms may redevelop behind the line Monday afternoon into the evening, posing a second threat for severe weather with a chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Some of the storms could be severe. High near 72. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. 

Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47. West wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. 

Tuesday: Looks to be a good day with Sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind. Tuesday night gives a 30 percent chance of showers after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 55.

There is a chance of storms the rest of the week but at this time the chances in the local area remain below 30 percent.
