A leader in the business community and local stalwart of Walton County, Neal Jackson, 84, passed away Saturday.

Jackson was a well-known figure in the county, particularly in the business world as the owner of Jackson Realty in Monroe, a prominent real estate brokerage which served the Walton County area.

His passing brought an outpouring of messages of appreciation and mourning for the esteemed REALTOR, including one from Shane Short, president of the Development Authority of Walton County.

“Neal was a former member of the Georgia Legislature and served in many leadership roles in Walton County,” Short said on the DAWC Facebook page. “He served on the Development Authority for over 25 years.  He left a lasting impression on the community and will be deeply missed. Thank you Neal for your service and dedication to Walton County.”

Jackson was a homegrown Waltonian, born in 1941 and growing up in Monroe. He graduated from Monroe Area High School before attending the University of Georgia in Athens to study real estate as a Bulldog.

On returning to Monroe, he established himself as a major figure in the local real estate market, all while raising his family with wife, Linda, including children Todd, Scott and Matthew and stepson Chris.

He also left an impact politically, serving in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1981 to 1986.

He was also active with a number of other local charities and organizations, making him a familiar face throughout Walton County.

He left an impact on all who knew him, many said in heartfelt tributes online.

“Neal was more than a respected real estate professional,” Stephanie Bramlett, president elect of the Walton Barrow Board of REALTORS, said on Facebook. “He was a pioneer, a mentor, and a steady voice of wisdom whose impact shaped not only our industry but the very foundation of leadership in Walton County.

“A Walton County native, he served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1981 to 1986 and dedicated decades of service to the Development Authority, helping guide growth and opportunity in the community he loved.”

Bramlett also credited him with making the board what it was.

“As a founding influence behind what would become the Walton Barrow Board of REALTORS, Neal helped establish a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and service that continues to define us today,” she said. “His legacy is not just in what he built, but in the people he poured into, the standards he set, and the example he lived.

“To know Neal was to respect him. To learn from him was a gift. And to follow in the path he helped create is an honor we do not take lightly.”

She said Jackson’s influence would not be forgotten.

“Neal’s impact will live on in every deal done with integrity, every leader who rises with purpose, and every life touched by his guidance,” Bramlett said. “He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.”

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. on Thursday and 10-11 a.m. on Friday at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Monroe. Funeral service follow at 11 a.m. with interment afterward at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Gratis.
