The Monroe Police Department is warning the community about ongoing scam phone calls targeting citizens regarding traffic citations, trash collection fees, and other city-related payments.
“At no time will the Monroe Police Department ever call you to request financial payment over the phone. If you receive a call from anyone claiming to represent law enforcement or the City of Monroe, GA Government asking for money, do not provide any personal or financial information,” MPD wrote in a social media PSA. “Please hang up immediately and contact the Monroe Police Department directly at (770) 267-7576 to verify any information.”
In the latest police report from MPD, they also report on an instance where someone received a call from someone claiming to be a cartel member demanding $45k in ransom for their kidnapped daughter. The daughter had not been kidnapped. There are many ways that scammers attempt to separate people from their money.
“Your awareness and caution can help prevent these scammers from taking advantage of others. Please share this post to help us keep our community safe,” MPD noted.
