Settlement Day at the William Harris Homestead in Walton County is scheduled for Nov. 16

press release from The William Harris Homestead

The community is invited to meet the Colonial Life Team at Settlement Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024. Experience what life was like hundreds of years ago and learn some of the skills needed to survive.

The Colonial Life Team members, led by Tomahawk Hank, enjoy re-enacting necessary survival skills when this country was evolving from wilderness to settled life. The team shares their knowledge and expertise of the late 18th century with current visitors to the William Harris Homestead property.

You’re invited to meet Doc Watson, resident Blacksmith, who shares his extensive knowledge of the history of “smithing.”  You can see how the forge, anvil, hammer, and blacksmith work in tandem to create necessary and artistic tools and implements of settled living. Shop for Doc’s hand-forged creations in our Country Store.

As an added attraction, Denise Weimer, award-winning author of historical novels, will be on hand to talk about her books and the settlement time period. She will be accompanied by her re-enactment friends, who love to entertain and teach historic dances, such as the Viennese Waltz and the Polka, to toe-tapping history buffs of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Enjoy the sounds of 18th century music and watch as dancers glide across the pavilion floor.  Bring friends and family to tour the log house and stroll around the property. Take a hayride to soak in the beautiful fall surroundings. Make a day of it and pack a picnic lunch to cap off Settlement Day at the Homestead.Tickets available at www.harrishomestead.com
