MONROE, Ga. — Spring is in full bloom, and one of the area’s most anticipated seasonal events returns this weekend as the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts hosts its annual “Nature Meets Art” Garden Tour on Saturday, May 9—just in time for Mother’s Day weekend.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can step into a curated collection of seven private gardens across Monroe, each offering a unique blend of landscape design, creativity, and natural beauty. The self-guided tour features a mix of returning favorites—refreshed with new plantings—and a debut garden making its first appearance this year.
Organizers say the event goes beyond a traditional garden tour, transforming the experience into a celebration of art, music, and community.
Guests can expect to see plein air artists painting on site, hear live music drifting through the gardens, and shop a special plant sale hosted by Grower’s Outlet. The sale will take place at the “Sycamore Shade” garden, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the arts center.
“This tour is about inspiration,” organizers note. “Whether you’re a lifelong gardener or simply enjoy being outdoors, there’s something here for everyone.”
The event also features opportunities to learn from well-known horticulture experts and local specialists. Among the special guests:
- Ashley Frasca, a familiar voice to Georgia gardeners, will be sharing practical tips and answering questions at the Walton County Master Gardeners Experiential Learning Garden.
- Dr. Allan Armitage, an internationally respected plant expert based in nearby Athens, will offer insight and plant recommendations at the Grower’s Outlet plant sale location.
- Scott Prophett will be on site with free tree seedlings and advice on tree care and planting.
Additional attractions include pollinator education from Billy Bees and guidance from Master Gardeners, making the tour as informative as it is scenic.
Organizers emphasize that the gardens are private and only open for a few hours once a year, making the event a rare opportunity to explore some of Monroe’s most beautiful outdoor spaces.
With mild weather, blooming landscapes, and a relaxed pace, the tour offers an ideal way to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend—whether with family, friends, or a solo afternoon of inspiration.
