Update
Georgia State Patrol report that the man injured in the single vehicle wreck in Monroe Sunday morning was Clifford Winters, 53, from Atlanta.
“While driving a 1994 Chevrolet S10, traveling west on the entrance ramp to Highway 78, Winters traveled off the south shoulder of the entrance ramp and struck a tree with the front of the vehicle,” said GSP Trooper First Class Cal Barton. He was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center via ambulance. Barton said charges are pending.

A single vehicle wreck involving a collision with a tree and entrapment of the driver Sunday morning resulted in one person being transported to the hospital in a critical condition.
According to Capt Andrew Dykes with Monroe Fire Department, MFD and Walton EMS received a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 9:10 p.m. on Sunday morning, April 23, 2017. The accident was in the vicinity of N. Broad St. and the Westbound on ramp to Highway 78.
Dykes said responders arrived on scene to find a pickup truck that had gone down an embankment and hit a tree with an entrapment. Walton County Fire Rescue assisted with the patient extrication. The patient was quickly extricated and transported to Piedmont Athens Regional in critical condition. Officials said due to the weather, life flight was not possible. The patient was transported by road.
All roadways are now open. Further details will be provided by Georgia State Patrol at the appropriate time.
