Update: Walton and Monroe firefighters respond to two house fires in the last 24 hours

No injuries were reported in either incident

MONROE, GA (Nov. 22, 2024) – According to officials, Monroe Fire Department and Walton County Fire Rescue have responded to two fires in the last 24 hours.

According to MFD Chief Andrew Dykes, the fire Friday afternoon was the second fire. The first fire was on S. Broad Street overnight.

“Monroe Fire was dispatched along with automatic aid from WCFR to the report of smoke in a residence in the 1000 block of S. Broad St. last night at approximately 11:25 p.m. Units arrived on scene to find a fire in the crawl space of the residence that was quickly extinguished. The fire was investigated by the city’s fire marshal and was determined to be caused from an electrical short,” Dykes said. “Today, MFD was dispatched along with automatic aid from WCFR to the 100 block of 6th Street for the report of a residential fire. MFD units arrived on scene to find a working fire on a single story residence. The fire was quickly brought under control but the home suffered significant damage to the interior. The fire was investigated by the city’s fire marshal and was determined to be unintentional in nature from cooking.”

Dykes said the Red Cross is assisting the occupants. No injuries were reported in either incident.

MONROE, GA (Nov. 22, 2024) – Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League reported that WCFR is responding with Monroe Fire Department to a working house fire on 6th Street in the City of Monroe.

“First arriving units report heavy smoke from the roof and flames from the rear of the house,” League said.
