Sheriff Brooks warned parents they too could be held accountable
LOGANVILLE, GA (Sept. 10, 2026) – The Walton County Sheriff’s Office advised that its Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Youth Services Division, investigated and charged a juvenile following an incident Wednesday evening involving several juveniles who made threats toward students at Loganville Middle School through social media.
The juvenile and the juvenile’s parent were escorted to and turned over to Juvenile Court. As a result of the incident, student absenteeism reached 30%, significantly disrupting the school’s learning environment and instructional activities.
“This is unacceptable. I want to make one thing absolutely clear: The Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Walton County School District have zero tolerance for threats of violence. Any threat made against a school, including threats against students and staff, will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. We will not tolerate threats of violence, and we will not tolerate anyone making our children, our schools, or our community feel unsafe,” Walton County Sheriff Keith Brooks said in a press release.
“To our parents: Please communicate with your children about the seriousness of their words and actions, particularly when using social media, messaging apps, and other electronic devices. What a child may believe is a joke, a prank, or something said in the heat of the moment can have very serious consequences.”
Brooks strongly encouraged parents to monitor their children’s devices and know what they are posting, sharing and communicating online.
“Parents, your children need to understand that threats made online are not treated differently from threats made in person. We take every threat seriously because we have a responsibility to protect our students, our schools, and our community. Incidents like this will never be taken lightly, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office will continue to aggressively investigate threats of violence and hold those responsible accountable,” Brooks said.
“Parents also need to understand that you can be held accountable as well. Parents, talk to your children. Know what they are doing online. Know what they are saying. And make sure they understand that their words and actions have consequences.”
