WALTON COUNTY, GA (Aug. 29, 2026) The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a pine straw scam targeting homeowners through door-to-door sales.
According to the alert shown below, some sellers offer a low price per bale, only to use more bales than expected and present homeowners with a much higher bill. Residents are encouraged to get the total cost and number of bales in writing, research the company and avoid pressure to make an immediate decision.
The sheriff’s office also reminded residents that door-to-door solicitors are required to be registered with Walton County. A similar pine straw scam has prompted warnings elsewhere in Georgia.
