Mother Nature appears a little confused at the moment. We have a Significant Weather Statement today warning of a high fire danger. There also is a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the next six days warning of the possibility of some winter precipitation, although the possibility is low.
The National Weather Service issued the following Weather outlook for north and central Georgia, including Walton, Gwinnett and surrounding counties.
DAY ONE…This Afternoon and Tonight…
Gusty northwest winds will result in increased fire danger
conditions across North and Central Georgia today.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Friday through Wednesday…
Additional light snowfall is possible in the mountains Friday
night or Saturday morning.
Another potential storm system could bring wintry precipitation to
portions of the area Saturday night into Sunday, but confidence
remains very low in this outcome.
The National Weather Service issued the following Special Weather Statement warning of High Fire Danger for this afternoon into the evening for all of north and central Georgia due to strong winds..
Much colder and drier air will filter into the region today.
Sustained winds of 10 to 16 MPH can be expected along with gusts
of 20 to 30 MPH. Relative Humidities will range from 25 to 35%
this afternoon and may briefly dip below 25% across portions of
Central and far eastern Georgia this afternoon. While colder
temperatures temperatures may limit erratic fire behavior, the
risk for quick spread of fire remains elevated across North and
Central Georgia through the afternoon.
With dry fuels, high fire danger conditions can be expected.
Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities
whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn outside,
use extreme caution.
