Get ready to run, walk, crawl or “monster stomp” through Monroe at the second annual Compound Fitness Monster Dash on Saturday, Oct. 24.
Following last year’s inaugural Monster Dash 5K and Spooky Sprint, this year’s Halloween-themed event has expanded to include both a 5K and 10K. The races will begin at 8 a.m. in Monroe.
The family-friendly event encourages participants to come dressed in their favorite Halloween or monster costumes. Awards, race shirts and plenty of colorful, spooky fun will be part of the morning.
The Monster Dash is also an opportunity to support Heart of Madison Inc., a Covington-based nonprofit established in memory of Monroe resident Madison Evans. The organization works to carry on Madison’s legacy through programs supporting families and a perpetual scholarship at the University of Georgia’s Early Childhood Education department.
For Compound Fitness Monroe, the event is about more than running.
“We absolutely are wanting to raise awareness,” Compound Fitness co-founder April Fralick said of the Heart of Madison mission during last year’s event. Race coordinator and Compound Fitness coach Kelly Murell also has a longtime family connection to Madison’s family.
The second annual Monster Dash will offer a 5K and 10K, with costumes encouraged and a family-friendly atmosphere. Registration information is available through the event’s RunSignUp page.
