The Dash to Honor Janice Tribble

by Shannon Schussler for Walton Hands of Hope

Janice Tribble passed away on Sept. 12, 2024. She was an honored and valued member of the Loganville community.

This is a photo of the amazing Janice Tribble.  The chances that you knew Janice already are extremely high, especially if you grew up in the Loganville area.  I grew up in Texas and knew Janice through Walton Special Olympics.  One time, I thought I was politely introducing a Monroe friend to Janice only to be told, “Ms. Janice taught me in kindergarten.”

Everyone knew Ms. Janice is perhaps a gigantic understatement.  What is also well known is how much love, support, and work Janice did in the Loganville/Walton County area.  Ten years ago former Loganville Police Chief Mike McHugh and present Chief Dick Lowry met with their long time supporters Janice and Harold Tribble in their home.  Janice had a request.  She asked the Loganville Police Department for help raising much needed funds for Walton County Special Olympics by holding a 5K run.  Chief Lowry shared that at the time, they had no idea how to facilitate a 5k run.  One thing that they did know; when Ms. Janice asked for help, the answer had to be, “Yes, ma’am.” The Loganville Police Donut Dash was born.

November 14, 2024, at the Loganville City Council meeting, Chief Lowry honored Janice Tribble:

Many Loganville Police Officers attended the meeting.  Walton County Special Olympics Coordinator Kim Wages and Olympian Stephanie Connelly gratefully received the donation from Loganville Police.  Funds will pay for transportation for Walton Special Olympians to Special Olympics Events, awards, meals, uniforms, and equipment.

Loganville School Resource Officers held a contest at the Loganville High School Media and Marketing class for students to submit art work for the 10th Annual Donut Dash poster and t-shirt.  Winners Dayton Watson (for poster) and Corinn Hall (for t-shirt) also attended the City Council Meeting.

On behalf of Walton County Special Olympics, we thank Loganville Police, Donut Dash participants and supporters, and Janice Tribble and family for blessing our Special Athletes and continuing Janice’s support and love.  Twenty-two thousand six hundred and thirty-one dollars will go so far in supporting our athletes.  Though we are heartbroken at the loss of Janice Tribble in this life, we are honored to continue her work on behalf of our Special Olympians.  If you would like to share in the legacy that Janice began, donations to Walton County Special Olympics can be sent in care of Kim Wages to 200 Double Springs Church Road in Monroe, GA 30656.
