Update: 15-year-old Monroe resident dies from accidental gunshot wound

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman said a 15-year-old from Monroe who accidentally shot himself on Friday morning did not survive.
“That is all that we are reporting at this time,” Chapman said, adding it has been a really tough year with several tragic incidents. A 12-year-old Monroe resident was killed in a car accident the day after Christmas and a 16-year-old Walnut Grove High School student was critically injured in a car accident two days before Christmas. She is still hospitalized recovering from serious injuries.

Officials with Walton County Fire Rescue confirm that they responded, with Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Walton County EMS, to an incident that involved a person injured from a gunshot wound off Laura Drive in the Mt Vernon area east of Monroe on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017.
“That person was transported to an area hospital. No further details are available at this time,” Capt. Jeff Allen with WCFR said.
