Weather Alert: Wind Advisory issued for much of Georgia through Friday morning

Flood Watch remains in effect

The National Weather Service in Atlanta has issued a Wind Advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday for much of Georgia, including portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest, east central, southeast, and west central Georgia. Walton, Gwinnett and surrounding counties are included in the Advisory.

Forecasters expect southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with some isolated areas potentially experiencing even stronger gusts overnight.

The gusty conditions could blow around unsecured outdoor objects, bring down tree limbs, and lead to isolated power outages. Motorists, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans, and RVs, are urged to use extra caution due to the potential for difficult driving conditions.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other loose items before winds increase this evening.

The advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Friday.
